Karen is the founder and CEO of Strength Connection Fitness and has been Certified in Personal Training for 7+ years having re-careered from being in the corporate world in Washington, DC for 20 years.
In addition to starting clients where they are, to include all fitness levels and abilities, she is very involved, and a key player in community health in Charles County as she and Strength Connection Fitness partner with the Charles County Department of Health since 2021 to organize and lead monthly walks all year long known as Walk Charles County. Karen is also a member of the Partnerships for a Healthier Charles County.
Karen got her start working for a small private studio for three years, and would strike out on her own in the middle of the pandemic in July 2020. Additionally, she worked part-time leading strength and flexibility classes at the Clark Senior Center designing and leading well-attended sessions for seniors which she thoroughly enjoyed!
Running Coach - Jamie is SCF's Running Coach who works with everyone from beginners to those who've been running for years whether or not they just run or run races. She is an experienced marathoner having run 18 marathons! She is also a competitive swimmer and USA swim coach. Jamie's full time job is a social studies teacher at La Plata High School where she is well into her 23rd year of teaching! Jamie is also a wife and mom of three grown children as well as a cat mom who rescues tiny kittens. Jamie is enthusiastic, motivating, and inspiring. She gets starting from nothing - as she was once there herself - and progressing you from never having run to being able to run a 5K to punching through plateaus and hitting PRs. She keeps each client in mind and tailors what they will do in each of her classes no matter where you are in your running journey.
Intern - Asher is a senior at La Plata High School and enrolled in the Physical Rehabilitation Program at Robert D Stethem Education Center working towards earning his personal trainer certification. He has been exercising and playing sports since he was four years old starting off with soccer, and through the years played high school football as well as baseball on youth sports teams. Currently, he is an athlete with the La Plata Warriors Wrestling Team. He also enjoys lifting weights after school. Since Asher has been an athlete for most of his life, he understands what it means to need coaching so he wants to be able to help others get stronger at all fitness levels – even if they are just starting out
